BACKGROUND

As a child I was fortunate to be exposed to the teachings of my grandparents and parents on our marae which have played an integral part of my life. I have had many roles on the marae: ringawera, committee member over the years, but as a current Marae Trustee the rewards of being part of what makes our marae function is at the level of making changes where they are most needed.

Poukai was my introduction to the Kiingitanga as a child and to see the passion and loyalty our kaumatua and kuia displayed over the years has been my inspiration to continue a legacy of commitment and strength. I pay homage to our tuupuna for their tenacity. I come from a family of nine made up of six brothers and three sisters. I have four children and three mokopuna and my tane, Peter Paki, is of Ngaati Maniapoto descent.
